You hear WVLT's Jerry Blavat every day from 5 to 7 pm right here on Cruisin' 92.1. Well, when "The Geator" started in radio 45 years ago, there was a guy on the same station called "Big Beat" Rudman, a kid that grew up poor in North Philly and became at school teacher. He did the radio show at night.
Well, out of that experience grew "The Friday Morning Quarterback" publication, one of the biggest trade papers in broadcasting. "Big Beat," now known as Kal Rudman, is a multi-millionaire and one of the Delaware Valley's most generous philanthropists.
Kal, a resident of South Jersey, has been a big supporter of local law enforcement donating much needed items (bullet-proof vests, police dogs, etc.) to area police departments. Recently, he gave a million dollars to Drexel University for an Institute of Entertainment. When asked why he gives away tons of money, Kal says "because I can." Kal and Doug "Bud" Hibbs are buddies.
